Sign(age) of the times

In a response to a down economy, the definition of a "roadside emergency" has apparently been expanded to include the breakdown of, among other things, your TV remote control.

I like the delivery idea, because there are certainly days when I can't muster up the energy to drive the half-mile to the CVS, but let's be honest: if you are someone who requires help with installation, then I'm not sure AAA can provide you with the help you really need...

Haha. Though, I dunno. Do the DVD players in minivans come with remote controls? If so, a parent of several small children, in the middle of a long drive through the hinterlands, might well consider lack of batteries to be a real roadside emergency.

And might well need the extra set of hands for installation!

The sad this is that there are probably a lot of people out there who really think that is what these people are advertising.

DT - I would want a remote control, but only so that I could use it to control the players in other cars.

But you're right, I had not considered the Waltons-on-holiday scenario; this may be a more valuable service than I had previously thought...

Andrew - Right. And if you can't get the back panel open, then installation is the least of your worries, I'd imagine.

Ewe - I really hope so. I would love to hear the transcript of those phone calls...

This reminds me of the scotch tape store skit on SNL from years ago. Talk about specialization!
